Better than yesterday.

Launch: The Beginning

Pre-2020 — Jan Marais Park

Horizen started with a simple belief:
Strength training can be more than physical.
It can be a support system. A vessel. A daily practice that expands our capacity to live fully — with more joy, more freedom, more confidence, and more connection.

Before Horizen had a name, it was just a few yoga mats, a DIY dumbbell set, and some borrowed gear in Jan Marais Park.
Friends gathered — then friends of friends — drawn not by a business, but by a feeling.

The early sessions were free. Simple. Raw. But the core idea was clear:
Movement is a tool for transformation.

Lockdown: The Shift

2020–2021 — Sea Point Promenade, Online Platforms, Driveways

When the world changed, so did the way we moved.
As the pandemic hit, Horizen adapted — fast.

Seb launched free Instagram workouts, hosted online classes, and eventually created structured coaching programs.
When in-person training returned, it didn’t happen inside a gym — it happened outdoors on the Sea Point Promenade, in driveways, gardens, and garages.

Then came a moment of deep personal loss — a turning point that brought intense clarity:
Life is short. Pursue what matters.

What began as a passion project took on new weight.
It was no longer just about training. It was about growth, healing, and purpose.

Today: The Mission

2022–Present — Horizen Gym

Horizen was never meant to be conventional.
From day one, it’s been a mission:
To help people become better versions of themselves — using strength as the vessel.

What we offer is physical, yes — but also emotional, mental, spiritual.
Strength is the medium. Transformation is the goal.

Horizen has become a home for a growing community:
Locals. Digital nomads. Explorers.
People who are drawn to meaning, movement, and the desire to show up fully in their lives.

Our classes today still carry the spirit of those first sessions in the park — shaped by years of learning, grounded in intention, and led by a team who lead with care.

What We Believe

Our Mission

Gym can be an intimidating place, for a lot of people. You’re unsure of what certain machines do and which exercises work best for certain muscle groups. Is your form correct?

Most gyms offer little more than a space for people to train in. There’s plenty of equipment and space but little effort put into guiding members on their fitness journeys.

Horizen exists to guide people on their fitness journeys and to create an environment where people feel excited and comfortable to push themselves and to grow in fitness and in life. To become better versions of themselves.
